Celebrate Christmas with Quayside Sunday Market Food Trucks

Are you a foodie? Are you figuring out where to find good food in Newcastle on a weekend?

Try going to Quayside Sunday Market!

The Quayside Sunday Market has been popular around the North East since the 1700s and originally started from the Old Tyne bridge nearby. The market features a lot of different cuisines around the world like Mexican, Greek and Thai.

The market features more than 60 stalls and food trucks, selling food to Newcastle Geordie merch to Christmas items this winter season.

Since the Christmas season is here, the market has no plans to move their stalls to the city centre as they already gained enough population to remain on the Quayside for business.

Acting commercial property manager, Jane Rose said: “There are no plans to move any stalls from the quayside market to the Christmas market. The market is governed by the Tyne & Wear Act 1978, we have a legal duty to permit permanent traders to trade on the quayside so we are quite restricted as to what we can and cannot do.”

However, some stalls are beginning to add a little Christmas spirit to their stalls by selling Christmas jewellery and custom made baubles. Some of them even sell Christmas jumpers and many Christmas gift bundle selections you can choose from for your loved ones this Christmas..

We reached out to the well known Greek restaurant and food truck - Acropolis, on their upcoming plans to bring in the Christmas spirit with their food and they shared that they are indeed going to have a few stalls up in the City Centre Christmas Market that are going on till 23 December.

“We are also at the Lazy Bear pop up near the Central Station so we are definitely having a few busy weeks and making the most of the Christmas season! Don’t forget to catch our pop-up at the Northern Lights which is a brand new Christmas Light Trail through Leazes Park starting January 2024!”

Other than Acropolis, you can also catch some well known food trucks like Geordie Bangers where you can get freshly cooked sausages or raw ones to cook when you are home, The Brownie Bar and Le Mini Macaron.

While you are there you can also visit the Gateshead Millennium Bridge at the bottom of the market. It is a pedestrian bridge stretching between the south bank to the north bank. It is now recognised as a travel spot for tourists as well.

Earlier this year, Malaysian Restaurant Chili Padi introduced their own food truck - Chili Padi Go Go Go. The restaurant at Leazes Park, opened since 2017 serves their most popular food items on the menu such as Nasi Lemak, Salt and Pepper chips and their new homemade drinks including Malaysia's favourite Teh Tarik.

Different locations will be announced the week before as they are not on the same location every week. They had locations in Kingston Park, Cramlington and Backworth Park.

However, their food truck was recently vandalised causing them to halt all food truck locations for the next couple of weeks. The update on their next food truck location has yet to be released.

The Newcastle Quayside Market opens at 9am to 4pm every Sunday at Quayside. Make sure to wrap up warm in the upcoming weather and enjoy some scran and have a Merry Christmas.

Cats that won’t leave your house covered in hair

Want to adopt a cat but worried about the cat hair all around the house?

Here are 10 cats that don’t shed (or shed less)!

Sphynx cats don’t shed at all because they have a genetic mutation that makes them hairless. Their body oils usually build up on their skin making them need a bath once or twice a week.

The Burmese cat only requires a simple brushing once per week as they do not really shed as much although they do have a lot of hair.

Passenger frustration over £2million refurb for problem-hit Metro...

Nexus has announced a £2million refurbishment of the lifts and escalators at a problem-plagued Metro station in the heart of Newcastle.

Head of renewals Sarah McManus said the refurbishment programme was to ensure that facilities at Haymarket station are fit for service for years to come.

The station recently lost the use of one of its three escalators, and mechanical issues with the other two meant Haymarket became an exit-only station, causing huge inconvenience for the thousands of passenger which normally use it each year.

“These assets are heavily used by customers, especially at those stations in busy city centres. They need renewal work,” she said.

“At Haymarket, all three of the station’s escalators are being refitted with the steps and drive chains,” said McManus. “We are grateful to customers for their patience while these work are taking place.”

The frequent disruptions have forced passengers to divert their journeys and caused growing frustration, some of which boiled over on Twitter at news of the refurbishment.

Some passengers also shared that one of the annoyances of using the station was the screeching noises its escalators made.
